Does your website pass the test? And what I mean specifically is the grunt test. Because if it doesn’t, you’re going to miss out on some new opportunities.

Hi, my name is Steve Phipps and this is your weekly marketing tip from Wayfind Marketing. And we are currently putting together our top 10 things that you can do to make sure that your marketing is ready for 2021. And so today is number nine. And today I want to make sure that your website can pass the grunt test.

Now here’s what the grunt test is. Imagine if a caveman came to your website, could he figure out in five to 10 seconds what you do, why it matters and what he needs to do next? And so could he grunt along with understanding to answer those three questions. And anybody who comes to your website has those same three questions. So if you can answer those quickly as soon as they get there, fantastic! That means people are going to stay on your website longer and you’re going to have more opportunities to win leads.

However, if your website cannot answer those three questions quickly and easily, that means people are going to be confused, they’re unclear on what you do, they don’t understand why it matters and they don’t know what to do next. And so people are going to leave your website more. They’re more likely to leave your website when that is true.

So take a look at your site. You want to make sure that as soon as somebody gets there that you answer those three questions. So tell ’em what do you do. Don’t worry about being clever or pithy or memorable. Just make sure you’re clear. Communicate a benefit that they get by working with you and tell them what’s the next step. Is that schedule a call? Is that sign-up for a free demo? Whatever it is, make sure that that is crystal clear.

When you can pass the grunt test, when your website can pass the grunt test, you’re going to win more opportunities. So take a look at your site, ask some people, maybe ask some of your customers or people that haven’t been on the site in a while if they can answer those three questions, and then make the changes so that you can pass the grunt test.
