How important is making a great first impression to winning more business?
Hi. I’m Steve Phipps with Wayfind Marketing, and this is a weekly marketing tip. Now, what I want to do is, I’m going to show you a website, and I want to know – what is your first impression of this website. Put it down in the comments. I’d love to hear from you on this, so here we go.
All right, so I’d love to know what do you think about this website? What is your first impression? What is it that immediately comes to mind? The reason I ask you that is because as we do business with people, other companies, organizations, we go through a process of building a relationship. And the very first step is called curiosity. And in that step people want to know very quickly what do you do when they go to your website. When they have a conversation with you or somebody on your team, their brain is quickly making these snap decisions. And basically what they’re doing is determining are you worth my time? Should I spend more time understanding what you do.
So when somebody goes to your website, the brain is just automatically asking that question, what do you do and why does it matter to me? We are bombarded by so many messages every single day that our brain is just subconsciously just making these snap decisions. So when somebody gets to your website can they quickly, clearly answer what do you do and why does it matter to me?
Take a look at your site, get somebody who hasn’t looked at it before, have them take a look at it, and ask them, “Can you tell quickly what we do and why it matters?” And if you do, great, congratulations. That’s going to help you win more customers and help them move to the next step of the process, which is called engagement. We’re going to talk more about that next week, so keep an eye out for that.
If you have any questions please drop them in the comments and I would love to know your thoughts on that website.
